A child at school once asked me, 'Father, is the sacrifice we offer different from the sacrifice you offer at Mass?' The answer is yes. Through the priest, Christ offers His one and only Sacrifice to His Father in heaven. That's the priest's side. What about everybody else? What about the royal priesthood of the consecrated nation that is the Church (1 Peter, 2: 9)? Here's what I found this morning in Sister Maria Faustyna's diary for the day she took her perpetual vows as a Sister of OL of Mercy (#239 in the standard copy):
"Today I place my heart on the paten where Your Heart has been placed, O Jesus, and today I offer myself together with You to God, Your Father and mine, as a sacrifice of love and praise. Father of Mercy, look upon the sacrifice of my heart, but through the wound in the heart of Jesus."
