Daily Mass - Wednesday of the fourth week of Easter

Mass was offered today for the repose of the soul of Christine Burgess (+), may she be forever blessed in Christ. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Today is also a memorial day for the boy-saint, Saint Dominic Savio (d. 1857), one of the mentees of the famous Italian priest, Saint John Bosco of Turin [more here], the most distinguished member of his school for young gentlemen in Turin. Dominic is therefore a Salesian Saint, the Salesian Fathers being formed by John Bosco, who used to say that young Dominic wore holiness like he did the clothes on his back. My poor mother, until the day she died, had a strong devotion to the boy-saint and she used to put a specially made scapular of this saint around my neck when I fell ill. One of the first Lives of Saints that I had was also a Life of Saint Dominic. I wonder where it went, for I haven't got it anymore.

May Saint Dominic Savio pray for us and our children, especially our young boys. May they be as he was.
